On 28 October 2004, the Ascension Island Post issued a series of stamps depicting natural event, a lunar eclipse, including the First Day Cover. On the first day cover stamps affixed to the stamp series and also described seabirds flying over the globe. The Cancellation Postmark feature earth is undergoing eclipse with purple ink.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth's shadow falls on the Moon. Since the plane of the moon's orbit is inclined about 5°: from the plane of the Earth's orbit, lunar eclipses are relatively infrequent. There are about two lunar eclipses each year (visible somewhere on Earth).
Types of Lunar Eclipses are total eclipse, and partial eclipse. Total Eclipse - When the entire moon enters the Earth's umbra (the darkest part of its shadow). Meanwhile Partial Eclipse - When only part of the moon enters the Earth's umbra.
